Women's Crossover Cardigan with Cable-and-Lace Panels
What you’ll make A long-sleeved, open-front cardigan with an overlapping crossover front, worked in a repeating panel pattern (cables with eyelet shaping), finished with a ribbed neck/front border.
Sizing / Measurements To fit bust: 76–81 [86–91: 96–101]cm. Finished garment (actual size): 96 [106: 118]cm. Length: 54 [55: 56]cm. Sleeve seam: 46cm.
Yarn Double knitting yarn (approx 110m per 50g ball). Amount: 9 [10: 11] x 50g balls (approx 990 [1100: 1210]m total). A smooth DK wool or wool-blend will show the cable definition clearly; a crisp cotton or cotton-blend DK will give a cleaner, lighter look for warmer wear.
Needles & notions 3¼ mm knitting needles, 4 mm knitting needles, cable needle, stitch holders (for 8 stitches at each front neck edge), tapestry needle for finishing.
Tension (gauge) 25 stitches and 30 rows to 10cm measured over pattern using 4 mm needles.
Also suitable Recommended yarn: Rowan Baby Cashsoft Merino. Also suitable: Sirdar Country Classic DK, Stylecraft Special DK, Cascade 220 Superwash DK, Malabrigo Arroyo, Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury DK, DROPS Karisma.
Construction notes Worked flat in pieces: back, two fronts, and sleeves. The body uses two repeating panels (Panel A and Panel B) set across the fabric after the ribbed hem. Fronts are shaped by paired decreases near the front opening while maintaining the rib edge. Shoulders are joined, sleeves are set in between marked points 23 [24: 25]cm either side of the shoulder line, then borders are worked from the held 8 stitches at each front neck edge to form the front/neck band. The right front overlaps under the left front and is secured at the top of the left front rib, then side and sleeve seams are sewn.
Skill level Intermediate (ribbing, shaping, cables with a cable needle, yarn forward/yarn over needle eyelet shaping, maintaining pattern while decreasing).
