Loose Ribbed Drop-Shoulder Jumper — Mistake Rib (All-over stitch, folded high neck) Instant PDF Pattern Download

What you’ll make: An oversized, drop-shoulder jumper in flat “mistake rib” throughout, including a tall folded neck that sits high without a tight turtleneck grip; clean straight hem and long sleeves.

Sizing / Measurements: Finished bust 112 [120, 128, 136, 144, 152] cm; length 64 [64, 66, 66, 68, 68] cm; sleeve seam 44 cm; neck (folded) ~11 cm. Intended ease ~25–30 cm.

Yarn: Aran-weight wool or wool-blend.

Materials:
Aran-weight yarn. Approximate total length: 900 [1000, 1100, 1200, 1350, 1500] m. If using Rowan Kid Classic (50 g ≈ 140 m): 7 [8, 8, 9, 10, 11] balls. Consider one extra ball for added length or a taller neck.

Needles & notions: 4.5 mm for trims, 5 mm for body/sleeves; straight or circular; stitch holders/waste yarn; tapestry needle; optional spare needle for three-needle cast-off.

Tension (gauge): Mistake rib, lightly blocked: 18 sts × 28 rows = 10 cm on 5 mm.

Recommended Yarn: Rowan Kid Classic

Needle note
Work body/sleeves on 5 mm; swatch in mistake rib and adjust needle size to hit 18 sts/10 cm after a light block. If you’re between sizes or lengthening the neck/body, add 1 extra ball.

Colour guidance
Mid to dark heathers emphasise the broad, “flat” columns of mistake rib; very pale shades show every seam and pick-up line.

Yarn suggestions: UK—Rowan Kid Classic; Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran. US/Canada—Malabrigo Rios; Cascade 220; Berroco Vintage. Antipodean—Heirloom Merino Magic 10-ply. (Select Aran/worsted yarns with a similar gauge/handle.)

Construction notes: Worked flat in pieces in the same stitch throughout (back, front, sleeves). Shoulders joined; high neck picked up and worked flat in mistake rib to preserve the identical texture, then seamed and folded to the inside. Sleeves set into drop-shoulder armholes; seams finished; optional picked-up hem rib or clean edge as knit.

Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate (consistent ribbing, simple shaping, seaming, neat pick-up for neck).
