A long, lace-patterned tunic in double knitting yarn, worked flat in pieces with separate borders at hem, cuffs and neck for a crisp finish.
What you’ll make: A hip-skimming tunic with all-over lace columns on the body and sleeves, finished with lengthways lower edging, sleeve cuffs and a neat neck border. The fit is lightly skimming rather than tight, designed to be worn over leggings, jeans or a slim skirt.
Sizing/Measurements: To fit bust 28/30, 32/36, 38/42, 44/48 in (71/76, 81/91, 97/107, 112/122 cm) with finished chest measurements of approximately 36, 42, 48, 54 in (91, 107, 122, 137 cm). Sleeve length approximately 16–17½ in (40.5–44.5 cm). Length to back neck when complete approximately 25–28½ in (63.5–72.5 cm), depending on size.
Yarn: Double Knitting (DK / Light Worsted) yarn worked at a firm, fabric-supporting gauge to hold the lace pattern clearly. Approximate quantity: 5 (6, 6, 7) × 100 g balls, giving a total of around 1250–1750 m / 1365–1915 yd depending on size and yarn used.
Tension (gauge): 22 stitches and 30 rows to 4 in (10 cm) over stocking stitch on 4 mm needles. The lace pattern is given as 16 stitches measuring 3 in (7.5 cm) wide and 30 rows measuring 4 in (10 cm). Work a swatch and adjust needle size if needed to match the stocking stitch gauge.
Recommended yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed.
Yarn suggestions: Also suitable are Stylecraft Special DK (smooth acrylic DK), Berroco Vintage DK (easy-care wool blend), Knit Picks Swish DK (superwash merino), DROPS Lima (wool–alpaca blend) and Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 8 ply (wool DK). Choose a solid or lightly heathered shade to keep the lace columns clear.
Needles & notions: 4 mm needles for the main tunic; 3¾ mm needles for the lower edging, sleeve cuffs and neck border; stitch holders or waste yarn for holding neck stitches; yarn needle for seaming and weaving in ends; blocking pins or wires and a flat surface for setting the finished fabric to size.
Construction notes: Back and Front are worked flat from the lower edge upwards in an 8-row lace pattern repeat, then shaped at the shoulders. The neckline is shaped differently for the size pairs to keep the lace aligned, and finished with a separate neck border worked lengthways and sewn on. Sleeves are worked flat in lace with increases in pattern, then finished with lengthways cuffs. A lengthways lower edging is worked separately and sewn along the cast-on edge of the tunic. All pieces are seamed using backstitch and the garment is blocked to final measurements.
Skill level: Intermediate. Suitable for knitters comfortable working lace with yarn forwards and directional decreases, shaping within a pattern repeat, picking up or aligning edges for sewn-on borders, and working neat seams and basic finishing.

Yarn suggestions are options chosen to match the pattern’s yarn weight and the stitch definition needed for the texture. They are not endorsements. Always knit and measure a gauge swatch and adjust needle size to match the stated gauge. If your chosen yarn has different meterage per ball, you may need more or fewer balls than listed.
