Leaf Panel Cardigan (Knitting Pattern PDF)
A classic, structured button-front cardigan worked flat with a bold centre panel of leaf motifs, framed by moss stitch borders and finished with set-in sleeves and a picked-up neckband.
What you’ll make:
A longline, button-front cardigan with a defined leaf panel motif, moss stitch borders, and a neat neckband finish.
Sizing/Measurements:
To fit bust 32–34 (34–36; 36–38) in / 81–86 (86–91; 91–96) cm.
Finished measurements:
Width 42 (44; 46) in / 107 (112; 117) cm
Length 20 (20½; 21) in / 51 (52; 53) cm
Sleeve length 17 (17½; 18) in / 43 (44; 46) cm
Yarn:
Cotton/linen double knitting yarn to match the stated gauge (this design works well in cotton or cotton–linen blends for breathability and softness).
Needles & notions:
3¼ mm and 4 mm knitting needles; cable needle; stitch holder; 5 buttons; tapestry needle.
Tension (gauge):
22 stitches × 30 rows to 10 cm (4 in) over stocking stitch using 4 mm needles.
Recommended yarn: King Cole Linendale DK, 13 (14; 15; 16) × 50 g balls.
Also suitable (currently available): Rowan Summerlite DK, DROPS Belle, Sirdar Cotton DK, Stylecraft Naturals Organic Cotton DK, Rico Creative Cotton DK, Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK, Hobbii Friends Cotton Silk.
Construction notes:
Worked flat in pieces. Back and fronts use a 29-stitch pattern panel (28-row repeat) with leaf motifs; moss stitch rib at lower edge; button band and buttonhole band worked separately; neckband picked up around the neckline with a neat buttonhole continuation; set-in sleeves shaped with increases while maintaining the panel and working remaining stitches in reverse stocking stitch.
Skill level:
Confident intermediate (cables, twists, lace, shaping, picking up stitches, buttonholes).
Materials (quantity guide):
Cotton/linen double knitting yarn, approx. 13 (14; 15) × 50 g balls (or equivalent total meterage in your chosen yarn line, matched to gauge).
