A full-length, cable-panel jacket with set-in sleeves, patch pockets, and a shaped hood finished with a deep rib facing. Worked to a firm Aran gauge for crisp cables and a structured, outdoor-ready handle.
What you’ll make: Long, button-front women’s jacket with cable panels, ribbed hems and facings, patch pockets, set-in sleeves, and a hood with rib edging.
Yarn: Aran weight yarn (heavy worsted). 400 g balls as specified by the original materials list (4 balls for all sizes).
Needles & notions: 5 mm and 4 mm knitting needles; 4 mm circular needle (100 cm) for the hood border; cable needle; stitch holders; 6 buttons.
Tension (gauge): 23 stitches × 30 rows = 10 cm (4 in) over pattern using 5 mm needles.
Yarn Suggestions: Recommended yarn: Rowan Alpaca Classic. Also suitable: UK / Ireland: Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran; Patons Classic Wool Aran. USA / Canada: Cascade 220 (Worsted) or Cascade 220 Superwash; Lion Brand Wool-Ease. Australia / New Zealand: Bendigo Woollen Mills Shepherd 10 ply.
Construction notes: Worked in pieces (back, fronts, sleeves) then assembled; hood stitches are picked up at the neckline and worked to length before crown shaping; a wide rib edging is picked up and worked around the hood and front edges.
Skill level: Intermediate (cables, shaping, picking up stitches, hood finishing).
