A textured cotton jumper with elongated cable panels; light, structured fabric achieved by holding two DK cotton strands together on larger needles.
What you’ll make: A straight, hip-length jumper worked flat in pieces with elongated cable panels on the front and smooth reverse-stocking-stitch elsewhere; seamed shoulders and set-in sleeves.
Sizing / Measurements: To fit bust 81 (86, 91) cm / 32 (34, 36) in. Actual bust 96 (104, 112) cm / 38 (41, 44) in. Length to shoulders 57 cm / 22½ in. Sleeve seam 36 cm / 14 in.
Yarn: Two different DK-weight cottons held together throughout (one crepe-spun cotton + one textured “boutonné” cotton or cotton-blend). Approx. 7 (8, 9) × 50 g of each DK strand.
Needles & notions: 6 mm needles; 7 mm needles; cable needle; tapestry needle for seaming.
Tension (gauge): 14 sts × 15 rows = 10 cm / 4 in over reverse stocking stitch on 7 mm needles (two DK strands held together). Cable panel (12 sts) ≈ 8 cm / 3 in.
Yarn Suggestions (DK cottons to hold double): UK — Rowan Summerlite DK; Sirdar Cotton DK. US/Canada — Berroco Modern Cotton DK; Cascade Ultra Pima. Antipodean — Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton 8-ply. (Mix any two strands to taste; match gauge.)
Construction notes: Worked flat: Back in reverse stocking stitch; Front with repeating 12-row elongated-cable panels formed by C8F/C8B with triple yarn wraps dropped on the following row; Sleeves in reverse stocking stitch with regular increases; Join shoulders, set in sleeves, seam sides and sleeves. All instructions use fully expanded wording (no abbreviations) and assume two strands are held together as one from cast-on to bind-off.
Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate (comfortable with seaming, reading a 12-row repeat, working cable crosses with a cable needle, and managing held-double strands).
