Classic Textured Mohair-Blend Jacket with Pockets and Shaped Collar (Knitting Pattern PDF)

A structured, button-front jacket worked flat in pieces, with set-in sleeves, integrated pocket linings, and a shaped half-collar worked from picked-up stitches. The fabric uses a repeating eight-row texture pattern over a soft, lightly fuzzy mohair-blend yarn for warmth and a subtle halo.

What you’ll make A hip-length, button-front knitted jacket with ribbed hem and cuffs, two front pockets, and a shaped half-collar worked as part of the front bands, finished with 3 buttons.

Sizing / Measurements To fit bust: 76–81 cm (30–32 in), 86–91 cm (34–36 in), 97–102 cm (38–40 in). Finished all-round (approximately): 109 cm (43 in), 117 cm (46 in), 127 cm (50 in), 137 cm (54 in). Length to shoulder: 64 cm (25¼ in). Sleeve seam: 46 cm (18 in).

Needles & notions Needles: 5.5 mm (US 9) and 6.5 mm (US 10½). Notions: 3 buttons, stitch holders (for pocket stitches, collar stitches, and pocket linings), tapestry needle for finishing.

Tension (gauge) 13 stitches and 18 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over the pattern on 6.5 mm (US 10½) needles.

Yarn Suggestions Choose a chunky / bulky yarn with a mohair blend (or a mohair-style halo) that can match 13 stitches × 18 rows over 10 cm on 6.5 mm needles. UK: Rowan Kidsilk Haze held with Rowan Big Wool (swatch to match gauge); Drops Melody (or similar mohair-blend bulky). US/Canada: Lion Brand Touch of Mohair (held doubled if needed to match gauge); Berroco Aerial held with a chunky wool (swatch to match gauge). Antipodean: Ashford Mohair (held with a chunky wool to match gauge). If your yarn is airier or fuzzier, you may need to adjust needle size to meet gauge while keeping the fabric stable.

Yarn Yarn is specified in 50 g balls, with approximate quantities per size: 12 balls (76–81 cm / 30–32 in), 13 balls (86–91 cm / 34–36 in), 14 balls (97–102 cm / 38–40 in). Quantities are approximate and based on average requirements.

Construction notes Pieces are worked flat: back, two fronts, and sleeves. Pocket linings are worked separately and placed onto held stitches during front knitting; pocket tops are finished later from held stitches. Shoulder seams are joined before the bands and collar are worked: stitches are picked up along each front edge and joined into the back-neck stitches on hold, with stepwise shaping to form each half-collar. Buttonholes are worked on the buttonhole band; the opposite band is worked to match without buttonholes. Finish by setting sleeves into armholes, seaming sides and sleeves, joining collar ends at centre back, securing pocket tops and linings, and sewing on buttons. Do not press.

Skill level Intermediate (texture patterning with yarn overs and decreases, pocket integration, shaping, pick-up-and-knit finishing, band buttonholes, collar shaping).
