Women's Romantic Victorian Flared Sleeve Blouse Top

What you’ll make: A hip-length, fitted crochet blouse in an open treble-lace pattern with set-in sleeves, front button fastening and a decorative lace insert panel. Written in three sizes to fit bust 34 (36, 38) in, with finished length approx 22½–23½ in and sleeve seam 17 in.

Yarn: Fingering-weight / 4-ply yarn with good stitch definition; approx 12 (13, 14) × 50 g balls (or equivalent yardage) depending on size. Smooth wool or wool/nylon sock-type yarns work best to show the shell pattern clearly.

Needles & notions: 3.50 mm crochet hook; 4 small buttons for front fastening; tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in ends; optional stitch markers for tracking armhole and neck shaping.

Tension (gauge): 6 stitches to 1 in over main treble-lace pattern using 3.50 mm hook, after light blocking (approx 24 sts to 10 cm / 4 in). Always work and block a swatch; change hook size if needed to match gauge.

Yarn suggestions: Rowan Sock (4-ply sock yarn, wool/nylon, smooth and durable for garment fabric); Sirdar Country Classic 4 Ply (soft wool/acrylic blend, crisp stitch definition); Cascade Heritage (fingering-weight merino/nylon with excellent stitch clarity); Malabrigo Sock (merino 4-ply in rich tonal shades); Cleckheaton Australian Superfine Merino 4 ply (superfine merino for a softer, more fluid blouse). Substitute any similar fingering-weight / 4-ply yarn that meets gauge.

Construction notes: Pieces are worked flat from the lower edge: back and fronts in all-over lace with shaped armholes and front opening, then neck shaping worked separately on each side. Sleeves are worked from cuff to armhole with matching lace and a shaped sleeve head, then set in. Cuffs, neckband, and front edgings are crocheted on, with a shell edging worked around the insert; spaces in the lace form buttonholes. Pattern is written in UK crochet terms with US equivalents given in the abbreviations.

Skill level: Intermediate – suited to confident crocheters comfortable with working lace from written instructions, shaping within pattern, and seaming.
