Bobble and Diamond Cardigan Knitting Pattern (PDF) — Marle & Row
A classic button-front cardigan featuring bobbles and cable-style twists arranged in alternating panels, with a shaped neck, set-in sleeves, and a ribbed button/neck finish.
What you’ll make: A long-sleeve cardigan with all-over textured panel patterning (bobble and diamond effect), button bands, and a picked-up rib neckband.
Yarn: Double knitting (DK) weight yarn; main colour plus two contrast colours for embroidery details.
Needles & notions: 3¾ mm and 4 mm knitting needles, cable needle, embroidery needle, 6 buttons.
Tension (gauge): 24 stitches and 33 rows to 10 cm over pattern using 4 mm needles.
Recommended yarn: West Yorkshire Spinners Pure DK — 8 (9:10) × 50 g balls.
Also suitable (currently available): West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab DK, Stylecraft Life DK, Sirdar Country Classic DK, Cascade 220 Superwash DK, Berroco Ultra Wool DK, Lion Brand Superwash Merino DK.
Construction notes: The body is worked flat in separate pieces (Back, Left Front, Right Front) using alternating pattern panels; shoulders are shaped with stepped cast-offs and the back neck stitches are held for the neckband. Sleeves are worked flat from a ribbed cuff, increasing into the panel pattern. Button band and buttonhole band are worked in rib; the neckband is formed by picking up along front neck edges, knitting held back-neck stitches with a centred decrease, then finishing in rib. Contrast yarn is used only for small embroidered leaf details and French knots.
Skill level: Intermediate (requires consistent pattern tracking, bobbles, cable-style twists, shaping, and finishing).
