What you’ll make: Adult sweater with patterned front and back, set-in sleeves, and a ribbed crew neckband.
Yarn: Aran weight yarn (smooth wool or wool-blend recommended for clear cables and texture). Approx yarn quantities (50 g balls): 14 (16 : 18).
Needles & notions: 4 mm and 5 mm knitting needles; cable needle; stitch holders/spare needle; tapestry needle.
Tension (gauge): 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm (4 in) over stocking stitch on 5 mm needles.
Recommended yarn
Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted.
Approx yarn quantities (50 g balls):
Cardigan: 13 (15 : 17).
Sweater: 14 (16 : 18).

Construction notes: Ribbed welt worked on 4 mm needles, then body and sleeves worked on 5 mm needles using repeating 28-row pattern blocks. Back is worked straight to shoulders; front is worked to underarm then shaped for crew neck and shoulders; sleeves are worked from ribbed cuff with increases to sleeve head width and cast off loosely; neckband is picked up and worked in rib after joining one shoulder seam.
Skill level: Intermediate (cables, pattern placement, shaping, picking up stitches).
