Loose Cotton DK Lace-Texture Sweater (One Size)
A lightweight, airy sweater with a bold openwork texture and simple garter-stitch framing, designed as a relaxed, easy-to-wear layer. Worked in a repeating lace-pattern sequence with straightforward finishing, it delivers strong surface interest without complex shaping.
What you’ll make: A loose-fit, one-size sweater with a lace-texture body, shaped neckline, and short sleeve seams (sleeves are worked as separate pieces and set in).
Yarn: Cotton double knitting (DK). Approximate requirement: 7 × 50g balls (total 350g).
Needles & notions: 4½mm (UK No 7 / US 7) knitting needles; spare needle or stitch holder for neck/front opening; yarn needle for seaming.
Tension (gauge): 19 stitches and 21 rows to 10cm / 4in measured over the pattern on 4½mm needles.
Recommended yarn: Rowan Summerlite DK — 7 × 50g balls.
Also suitable (currently available): Sirdar Cotton DK, Stylecraft Naturals Cotton DK, Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, Knit Picks CotLin, Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8, Bendigo Cotton DK.
Construction notes: One size only. Back and front are worked flat in a 12-row lace-pattern repeat, with a garter-stitch centre section for the front opening. Neck shaping is formed by casting off and holding stitches on a spare needle, then completing each side. Sleeves are worked flat, then set in and seamed.
Skill level: Intermediate (lace patterning, holding stitches, shaped neck, seaming).
