Women's Textured Button-Neck Sweater Jumper #1042 Instant Download Knitting Pattern PDF

This longline women’s sweater is worked flat and seamed, with an oversized, easy fit and a buttoned split-neck opening. The back is worked in reverse stocking stitch for a clean, structured contrast, while the front and sleeves feature an all-over “cobweb” cable texture built from six-stitch cables and compact crossing panels. A deep rib welt and practical front pockets add weight and stability to the silhouette, making this a strong choice for knitters who want a statement texture without complex shaping.

A longline women’s Aran-weight sweater with a buttoned split-neck opening, pocketed front, and all-over cobweb cable texture on the front and sleeves.

What you’ll make
You will make a hip-skimming, longline jersey with a relaxed, easy fit through the body, a neat buttoned neck opening, and set-in sleeves. The back is worked in reverse stocking stitch for a clean plane of texture, while the front and sleeves feature a dense cobweb cable pattern that gives strong vertical interest. A deep rib welt and integrated front pockets add structure and practicality.

Sizing / Measurements
The pattern is written for two sizes, to fit bust 81–86 cm (32–34 in) and 91–96 cm (36–38 in). Finished bust measurements are approximately 108 cm (42½ in) and 118 cm (46½ in), giving a generous amount of ease. Length to shoulders is approximately 72 cm (28 in), with a sleeve seam of around 44 cm (17½ in).

Yarn
This design is written for an Aran-weight yarn worked at a relaxed gauge on 6.0 mm needles, originally intended for a wool-rich blend with good body and stitch definition. Choose a smooth, cable-friendly Aran or worsted yarn that shows the cobweb pattern clearly and has enough weight to support the longline length without dragging.

Tension (gauge)
Tension for the main cobweb pattern is 19 stitches and 22 rows to 10 cm (4 in) over the textured stitch on 6.0 mm needles.
Tension for the reverse stocking stitch sections (the back) is 17 stitches and 23 rows to 10 cm (4 in) on 6.0 mm needles.
Always work and block a swatch in both the cobweb pattern and reverse stocking stitch, and adjust needle size if necessary to match the stated gauge.

Yarn suggestions
Recommended yarn: Rowan Kid Classic.

Also suitable (currently available): Hayfield Bonus Aran; DROPS Nepal; Berroco Vintage; Lion Brand Wool-Ease; Patons Classic Wool Blend 10 ply.

Needles & notions
You will need 5.0 mm, 5.5 mm, and 6.0 mm knitting needles for the different sections of rib, texture, and body fabric. A cable needle is required for the cobweb stitch crossings. You will also need three buttons for the neck opening, plus standard finishing tools such as a tapestry needle and stitch holders or spare needles for neck and pocket stitches.

Construction notes
The jersey is worked flat in pieces and seamed. The back is cast on at the lower edge, worked in a deep rib, then continued straight in reverse stocking stitch to the shoulders before shaping the simple wide neck. The front begins with a ribbed welt that incorporates two pocket linings; the cobweb stitch is then worked all the way to the shoulders, with the front divided part-way up for the buttoned opening and shaped at the neckline. Sleeves are worked flat in the cobweb pattern with regular increases, then sewn into the armholes along a classic set-in sleeve cap. A picked-up ribbed neckband frames the opening, and separate ribbed buttonhole and button bands complete the front. Sleeves and side seams are sewn, and pocket linings are secured from the inside for a clean finish.

Skill level
Intermediate. Suitable for knitters confident with reading row-by-row instructions, working cables from written directions, shaping in pattern, picking up stitches for bands, and seaming garment pieces neatly.
