Construction
Sweater is worked flat in pieces from the lower edge upwards.
Front and back are begun with a deep ribbed welt using smaller needles.
Body is then worked straight in the lace-and-cable block pattern to the armholes.
Front neck is shaped into a rounded opening within the pattern; the back is kept high and straight.
Sleeves are worked flat from ribbed cuffs upwards, with regular increases at the edges to form classic set-in sleeve heads, keeping pattern correct as stitches are added.
Shoulders are cast off and joined; sleeves are seamed and set into the armholes.
Stitches for the neckband are picked up around the neckline and worked in the round in Knit 1, Purl 1 rib on double-pointed needles, then cast off in rib for a neat, elastic edge.
Fabric Characteristics
Firm DK-weight wool fabric with strong stitch definition that shows cables, twists and eyelets clearly.
Lace-and-cable panel creates a richly textured but stable fabric that hangs straight rather than draping too softly.
Ribbed welts, cuffs and neckband give good elasticity and help the garment keep its shape over time.
Overall fabric is warm, resilient and well suited to everyday wear in cooler weather.

Marle & Row Yarn Suggestion List Disclaimer
Yarn suggestions are options chosen to match the pattern’s yarn weight and the stitch definition needed for the texture. They are not endorsements. Always knit and measure a tension swatch and adjust needle size to match the stated tension. If your chosen yarn has different meterage per ball, you may need more or fewer balls than listed. Substitutions are at the knitter’s discretion.
