Diamond and Cable Sweater (Aran)
A classic Aran-weight sweater featuring diamond panels and cable texture, with a ribbed cuff and neck finish. Worked flat in pieces with an integrated sleeve-and-side-panel section, then seamed.
What you’ll make: A longline Aran sweater with diamond-and-cable patterning, ribbed cuffs, shaped shoulders, shaped neckline, and a picked-up ribbed neckband.
Sizing / Measurements: To fit bust: 76–81 (86–91, 97–102, 107–112) cm [30–32 (34–36, 38–40, 42–44) in]. Finished chest (approx.): 98 (106, 116, 126) cm [38½ (41½, 45½, 49½) in]. Length: 65 (68, 71, 74) cm [25½ (26¾, 28, 29¼) in]. Sleeve length: 46 (47, 48, 49) cm [18 (18½, 19, 19¼) in].
Yarn: Aran-weight yarn. Approx. 21 (22, 24, 25) × 50 g balls (or 21 (22, 24, 25) × 40 g balls), depending on ball size and meterage.
Needles & notions: 4 mm needles; 5 mm needles; 5 mm × 100 cm circular needle (used working flat); cable needle; stitch holders; stitch markers; tapestry needle.
Tension (gauge): 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm [4 in] over stocking stitch on 5 mm needles.
Recommended yarn: Rowan Kid Classic, 9 (9, 10, 10) balls.

Construction notes: Ribbed cuff is worked first, then the patterned sleeve section is increased to width; sleeve and side panels are cast on and worked as a single piece; front and back are worked separately with shoulder shaping; neck is shaped on the front; neckband is picked up and knitted, then folded and stitched down; seams are completed after blocking.
Skill level: Intermediate (cables, maintaining multiple patterns, shaping, picking up stitches).
