What you’ll make: A classic Aran-textured sweater with structured cable-and-panel motifs on a reversed stocking stitch ground, offered with either a deep fold-over polo neck or a neat crew neck, turnback cuffs, and set-in sleeves for a polished finish.

Sizing / Measurements: Six sizes to fit bust/chest 30–32, 34–36, 38–40, 42–44, 46–48, 50–52 in (approx. 76–132 cm); finished chest approx. 38–58 in (97–147 cm); back length approx. 65–80 cm; sleeve length to turnback approx. 48–56 cm. Yarn: Aran-weight yarn (modern equivalent); purchase enough for your size and chosen neck option.

Needles & notions: 4 mm and 5 mm straight needles; cable needle; stitch holders; for polo option a 4 mm circular needle (~60 cm).

Tension (gauge): 18 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in reversed stocking stitch on 5 mm needles (or size to obtain gauge); panel pattern approx. 24 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm (4 in).

Recommended yarn: Rowan Kid Classic. Also suitable: UK/Ireland: Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran; Wendy With Wool Aran. USA/Canada: Cascade 220; Lion Brand Wool-Ease Worsted; Malabrigo Worsted. Australia/New Zealand: Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 10-ply.

Construction notes: Pieces worked flat; sleeves increased and set in; choose ribbed polo neck in the round or picked-up ribbed crew neck; seam and finish lightly per yarn care.

Skill level: Intermediate.
