Women’s Aran Cable Sweater (PDF Knitting Pattern)

What you’ll make
A women’s long-sleeved aran sweater with strong vertical cable structure and a central bobble-tree motif, worked flat in separate pieces and assembled. The design includes a shaped front neckline, set-in sleeves, and a ribbed neckband, with a choice of standard ribbed length or a cropped version.

Sizing / Measurements
To fit chest: 32–34 (34–36, 36–38) ins. Finished width: 42 (44, 46) cm. Finished length: Ribbed 21 (22, 23) ins; Cropped 17 (18, 19) ins. Sleeve length: 17 (17½, 18) ins.

Needles & notions
4 mm needles, 5 mm needles, cable needle.

Tension (gauge)
19 stitches and 29 rows to 10 cm over moss stitch using 5 mm needles.

Yarn
Recommended yarn: Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted — ribbed version 8 (9, 9) × 100 g balls; cropped version 8 (8, 9) × 100 g balls.

Construction
Worked flat from the lower edge. The back is patterned throughout; the front is shaped at the neckline near the top. Sleeves are worked from ribbed cuffs with increases, then set in. A ribbed neckband is picked up around the neckline, worked, folded to the inside, and stitched down.

Skill level
Intermediate. Requires confidence with cables, bobbles, shaping, and reading complex row instructions.
